President Message

Dear members,

I hope that all of you have had an enjoyable, relaxing summer, and all of you have made it safely through Hurricane Irene. The Executive Board and I have been busy trying to jump start negotiations with the City, but to no avail. We will keep after the City and hope to have more to report in the future.

It has been brought to our attention that there seems to be a problem with members concerning overtime. Any Agency can mandate overtime by declaring an emergency situation. Definitions of emergency situations can be a hurricane to a severe backlog of paperwork due to the non-replacement of retired workers. If you are unable to perform this overtime because of any reasons then management is allowed to take steps that they deem necessary to alleviate what they have deemed the emergency situation. If they wish to use other people from other areas with the same title the Union cannot make an issue over this with management. As far as the definitions of overtime please refer to the Citywide Agreement under overtime and it will explain all issues that you may have concerning overtime. If you access our website there is a link that will take you to the Citywide Agreement. I hope that this clears up some of the issues that you might have.

We are still under attack and the group heading this attack is the TEA PARTY. Tea stands for taxed enough already which is true but how come we as middle class citizens pay approximately 25% of our income in taxes and another 10% towards Medicare and Social Security for a total of 35% of our income. While the rich pay only 17% of their income in taxes, Medicare and Social Security. Warren Buffet, one of the richest men in the world has come out and said the United States must stop mollycoddling the rich and let them pay their fair share. To make government run we all must pay taxes but this should be done evenly throughout our great society.

These Tea Partiers are right-wing maniacs who only look short sided at what government does for the public, they are anti-government and want us to regress to the 1800's by doing away with all that government has done for our society. Look what happened when they decided to hold the government hostage over the Budget. They were willing to allow all services for the poor and the elderly to stop so they could get their own way. Technically whether the debt limit was raised really had nothing to do with the budget. One could have been done without the other but yet the Tea Party and Republicans in the House caused our bond rating to drop and jeopardize our economy. The Tea Party needs to be stopped they are nothing but a divisive instrument to our great society. Most Tea Partiers are supposed to have Christian values but yet they have no problem turning on the poor and the elderly members of our society that are continually overlooked and swept aside and need people to stand up for them. As again, as I have said many times before get out there and vote to help turn this country around. We were going in the right direction till Congress decides to have a Tea Party.

Finally I would like to see as many of you as possible at our next two General Membership Meetings taking place at 36-36 33rd Street Suite 200 L.I.C. 11106 on Wednesday September 21, 2011, and Wednesday October 12, 2011. Refreshments will be served.

In Unity,

James Golden
