Dear members,

I hope all is well and everyone is gearing up towards a relaxing and fun summer. The Executive Board and I have some information to pass on to the members.

We will be meeting sometime in June with the City to discuss parameters concerning our overdue contract. This new contract only concerns City agencies including the Department of Education, HHC and the Housing Authority. We believe everything hinges on the ratification of the Teachers Contract before any of the other Unions including Local 300 will meet with the City. The ratification vote for the Teachers contract takes place in the beginning of June. Please remember that Local 300 has already received the two four percent increases that the UFT has received at the beginning of their contract. Hopefully we will have more to report in June concerning this issue.

To our brothers and sisters at CUNY we know it has been a very long time since you have had a contract and we feel for all of you. Remember for CUNY we sit on a coalition with all the other unions and bargain with CUNY as a collective with DC37 being the lead negotiator. Our problem is that CUNY is split between State and City, with the universities being governed by the state and the Community Colleges governed by the City. We know that DC37 has been pushing for negotiation sessions since the expiration of the CUNY contract but to no avail. The State and the City has continuously postponed the sessions that have been arranged. At this time it is all the Executive Board and I can report to you. Hopefully we will have some more news in the future.

The MLC has negotiated savings with our Heath Insurance that have resulted in no payment towards our Health Insurance. This is a major victory that was unattainable with the previous Administration. We are some of the few employees in the country that do not have to pay for their Health Insurance. The savings were a major breakthrough and proved that this mayor is willing to work with the unions in a spirit of joint cooperation. This I think bodes well for a settlement on our contract. No matter how you feel about the new mayor he seems to want to work with all the people just not the few. It is nice to go into meetings where there is mutual respect and not an air of do as I say or receive nothing. That is one of the major differences that we as a Board can attest to.

Finally our Annuity Statements will be going out by the end of June for the period of January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2013. If you have not received by mid July call the Funds Office at 212-5050 x251 for a duplicate statement.

We hope to see all of you at our next membership meeting which takes place on Wednesday June 25, 2014 at 6:00PM in our Union Office located at 36-36 33rd Street, Suite 200 L.I.C., New York, 11106. Refreshments will be served.

In Unity,

James Golden

President
