James Golden, President

I started with The City as an Office Associate. After two and a half years I became a Quality Assurance Specialist, and in the mid 90's I was made an Associate Quality Assurance Specialist. My career with The City of New York spans over the course of twenty six years and I have witnessed very many situations in that time which has led me to agree with the person that said experience is the best teacher.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from Queens College. I also attended many classes and seminars at the Cornell Labor Institute on Union Building, Management and Conflict Resolution. My Union career started in 1996 when I became a Shop Steward for Local 300. Since that time I have ascended through the ranks to the Presidency of Local 300.

Since getting elected President, I am very proud of the fact that we have turned our Union into an easy and extremely accessible Union for our members. This is one of the very few Unions in The City of New York where once a message is left by a member the Union Officer will get back to them within a few days. We have settled many contracts in our tenure and have gotten the best possible raises for our membership; we have left nothing on the table and have given nothing back. We have increased benefits and established an Annuity Fund for the benefit of our membership. There is no problem too large or too small for us to tackle.

Having worked my way through the rank and file for 18 years, I proudly joined Local 300 in February of 1982 as a Procurement Analyst for 23 years and retired my title at Bellevue Hospital, February 2006.

I served as a Local 300 Shop Steward under the auspice of the late, Sal Cangiarella. In 1998 I was elected by the membership to serve as a member of the Local 300 Executive Board at the capacity of Secretary-Treasurer. In holding this position, I am responsible for all financial records and transactions.

Lydia Sechter, Recording Secretary

I am Lydia Sechter and I have had the honor of being the Recording Secretary for Local 300 for the past 9 years.

My career with the City began 24 years ago, first as a Buyer, then as a general Purchasing Agent at the Office of the Chief Medical where my assignments included the purchasing of medical and laboratory equipment and vehicles.

Currently, I am employed at the Department of Citywide Administrative Services at the capacity of Procurement Analyst, where I am responsible for purchasing furniture. I see the job of purchasing goods and services for a City such as New York as a test of skills, knowledge and ingenuity. It is a challenge that I am happy to meet on a daily basis.
